“As designers ourselves we understood the complexity of delivering a major house redesign so Martyn (an old colleague) was our ideal partner. He took a logical approach to our project. Securing an ambitious planning application and pushing our expectations of the existing spaces. Within the design process we were able to join forces and detail the design together and with Martyn’s guidance manage to achieve this on time and within budget. We now live in a home we truly love."

The clients were graphic designers www.borndesign.com and the project was very much a collaboration of the different design disciplines. The clients had the foresight to purchase an ugly 1970s house that nobody else wanted to buy. By extending upwards, downwards, to the front and rear we were able to almost double the existing footprint.
The client’s wanted their new home to sit more comfortably in the streetscape. An unconventional approach was to apply a black dye to all the brickwork. Window openings were resized to reflect the rhythm of the adjacent properties.
The lower ground floor level is over 15 metres deep stretching from the light well in the front garden to the sliding glazed screen to the rear. A five metre island, is the focus of the space finished in a rivened black granite with ebony stained hardwood door facings and a polished concrete floor throughout.
